Partially textured boat on water

Here is the first render with textures and water. This is using the water material with AM and it looks rather fine. I still have to add the cross members and color top rails. The outer skin of the canoe could do with some ageing and dirt also.

So what's left to do. Well we are missing a padel, some rigging and a background. A little more to go then.

Wireframe of the Canoe so far

This is going to be part of the eventual animation. The character will be paddling a birch style canoe. It was going to be a whaling style row boat but as I have only one character right now it would of looked a little empty and gone around in circles.

Oh yes having a canoe means water as you know. This will be an interesting one as I will be most likely be using AM again to create this.

Render with better lighting

The face is starting to look reasonable. The additional lighting shows up the lines on the face better. But you can see the texture on the neck needs blending. Also the earing needs some work to be structurely realistic. The feathers are a scan from one I picked up while walking.

Texturing the face

Ok the best way to do sounds obvios but look at reel peoples faces. One interesting thing I found was how hard it is to find images older people faces on the internet who haven't been photoshopped etc.. Eventually I found a book down the local book store called "Portraits, Steve McCURRY, PHAIDON".

It has great portraits from around the world giving you a good look at skin toones and wrinkles pores and so on.

After allot of modelling I have got this far. Check out www.hash.com to find some tutorials if you want have a go yourself. He is slowly developing into a nice character.

Queequeg

This is a foray into the art of chracter modelling and rigging. Again the tool I will be using will Animation Master as this is it's particular strength.
For rigging i will be using The Setup Machine.

I've decided to go for someone a bit different as a character he started as a pirate but after watching Moby Dick recently he's developing into a Queequeg style character.

The scene will consist of Qeequeg rowing or padelling a canoe or boat on water. That is about it.
